In this world, we live in the tension of abounding privilege and immense need. GivingTuesday was created to build a world in which “the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity and equity around the globe.”
Founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, GivingTuesday spun out into its own organization in 2019, led by GivingTuesday co-founder, Asha Curran, as its CEO. It has now become a day of global generosity towards others and nonprofits, and last year alone raised nearly 400 million dollars -- in a single day.
This year, GivingTuesday takes place on December 3rd, and as the movement states on their website, it's a day to "unleash the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world."
#givingtuesday and the exodus road
At The Exodus Road, we believe that “justice is in the hands of the ordinary.” Our roots began with two ordinary people who chose to take action, and who still believe that great change is possible when we come together to fight human trafficking. Your contribution truly matters and will equip our global teams of operatives with funds needed for technology for investigations, assisting police with rescue operations, and empowering social workers and after care programs to help survivors heal.
It is a powerful and uniting experience when we come together to stand in support for the vulnerable. GivingTuesday is an opportunity to invite our community into this mission to end modern slavery. The financial gifts that The Exodus Road receives during this one day remain a critical part of our operating budget every year, ensuring that the front line work of rescue continues.
This year, our goal is to raise $150,000 in just 24 hours.
how you can help
Here are three important ways you can help:
GIVE (x2!). Your donations given through our website on December 3rd will be matched for double the impact. Every bit helps!
FUNDRAISE. It take about two minutes to launch a Facebook Fundraiser. Set a goal and rally your friends on GivingTuesday! We've even made a simple tutorial for you here.
“There IS something we can all do to fight against the evils of human trafficking. From sharing the posts to financially supporting the workers in the field. You can be a part of the rescue.” - Melinda, TER supporter
See you on Dec. 3rd!
Be sure to join the TER community this GivingTuesday on our website and on social media. It will be a day of generosity and impact you won't want to miss!
