3 Ways to Get Involved in Counter-Human Trafficking

The barriers to entering the counter-human trafficking fight are many. With an estimated 40.3 million men, women, and children living in modern slavery, the numbers themselves are daunting. And while the numbers are overwhelming, human trafficking is also an incredibly complex, underfunded, and misunderstood issue. Despite the reality that human trafficking is a crime that occurs in every country, people often feel like it’s a problem that only affects victims in the developing world, which is another barrier to both compassion and activism.

And because of these barriers, human trafficking crime continues, and caring citizens feel like they can do nothing to stop it. But just as a giant jigsaw puzzle doesn’t come together instantly, it requires strategy for joining together one section at a time, so then does the fight against human trafficking. When people gather to put the pieces together, the work goes faster and community is built through that collaboration.

Everyone, everywhere, has a piece to play in a free world.

If you’ve followed the work of The Exodus Road in helping police to find and free survivors of human trafficking, and you’d like to jump in alongside us, here are three ways you can get involved and make an impact:

1) GIVE to support rescue: your generosity literally finances our efforts on the front lines in India, Thailand, and Latin America in bringing freedom to many. Your donations help us empower and equip our national teams with tools such as cutting-edge cyber technology, training, and investigative resources to fight human trafficking in their local communities with local authorities. These Search + Rescue teams are critical in helping rescue survivors and arrest traffickers. Each survivor is valued by us, and your support also helps to guide them through the After Care healing process. If you’d like to jump in for monthly support or a one-time gift, you can donate here

2) SHARE our social posts! So many people are still learning about the issue of human trafficking and don’t yet understand the magnitude or how they can help. By simply sharing our posts and why this fight is important to you, you are helping to create a movement of support. Every link, share, comment, and engagement matters. As William Faulkner wrote, “Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world...would do this, it would change the earth.” You cannot underestimate the value of spreading the word!

3) HOST A FUNDRAISER! Putting together a fundraiser is easy and we’ve got all your questions on how to do it answered here. Invite your friends to join you for your birthday or a special day like Human Trafficking Awareness Day (January 11) in raising up the vulnerable and standing together. Fundraisers are quick and simple, and they are brave invitations to your friends and family to invest in a free world alongside you.

Will you join us in this fight for the most vulnerable? Everyone holds a piece of the puzzle for a freer world in this generation. We believe justice is in the hands of the ordinary and whatever you can give to this work matters.
